Special City Council Meeting                                                                                              August 25, 2009

Mayor Hudson opened the meeting at 5:00 p.m.  Advance notice and a copy of the agenda were given to the Council and members of the press.  City Council meetings are conducted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act, a copy of which is available for public inspection on the north wall of the Council Chambers.

 

The meeting was called as a work session on the 2009 - 10 budget. The proposal for each fund was reviewed and/or modified and a final proposal will be prepared for public hearing.  The following will be proposed in the budget document for Council review on September 1:

  • The property tax levy will remain the same as last year
  • Mower, Bobcat, digger truck, and loader purchases, trades, and repairs
  • NPPD is proposing a 5.9% increase wholesale electric rates in January 2010
  • Remodel, additional space, and garage addition to the police department
  • Payment of city share of street & sidewalk improvements instead of bonding
  • Construction of a skateboard park, install wireless scoreboard operation at 4-plex
  • Continue program of installation of underground electric services
  • Grit auger, SCADA system, and UV bulbs at waste treatment plant
  • Registered warrants will be paid with bond proceeds from various improvement projects

 

Kennedy moved, Strauser seconded, to include the Airport Authority request of $64,729 for taxi-way repairs and replacement.  Roll call vote: Yea – Whiting, Strauser, Kennedy, Aden.  Nay – none.

 

The proposed budget will be presented at the September 1 meeting and approved for publication and hearing on September 15.

 

Whiting moved, Strauser seconded, to adjourn the meeting at 7:24 p.m.  Roll call vote: Yea – Whiting, Strauser, Aden, Kennedy.  Nay - none
