rate classes for electricity, water, sewer and solid waster are among the lowest in the nation.
Nebraska is the only state in the nation served
totally by electric public power, which has contributed greatly to our great
competitive rates. The City is a total requirements wholesale customer of the
Nebraska
Public Power District.

Electricity
The City of Gothenburg is a
municipally owned distribution system. The distribution system includes four substations
totaling 13,750 KVA. The city network includes 34,500 volt primary lines and 4,160 volt secondary lines which are connected to a Nebraska Public
Power District substation located one mile south of Gothenburg. The NPPD substation is connected to the statewide grid system by
115,000 volt transmission lines and can be energized from two directions.

Water
The municipal water system in Gothenburg is supplied by four wells, which
range in depth from 200 to 400 feet. The system has a combined pumping capacity
of 4,800 gallons per minute and an overhead storage capacity of 500,000 gallons.
The average daily demand on the system is 1,156,000 gallons, and the historic
peak daily demand is 2,800,000 gallons. The system has a maximum capacity of
7,412,000 gallons per day. The static pressure is 65 pounds per square inch and
the residual pressure is 52 pounds.
Groundwater is available for industrial uses. A 200-foot well will produce
1,200 gallons of water per minute. The water table fluctuates seasonally with no
significant change. The quality of water in Gothenburg does not necessitate a
water treatment plant. The color of the water is clear and the hardness, in
parts per million, is 180. The average tap water temperature varies from 46
degrees in winter to 48 degrees in summer.
Sewer
The Disposal Plant for the City of Gothenburg was built starting in June,
1992 and came on line in February 1994. The treatment process is an
extended aeration activated sludge process. The plant is designed to
handle an annual average flow of 0.504 mgd per day.

Gas Services
Natural gas local distribution is
through Source Gas. Source Gas provides
the Choice Program in which individual customers may choose their own natural
gas provider through the Source Gas distribution system.

Gothenburg is a member of the Public Alliance for Community Energy at 1-800-454-4759, or ACE. ACE
is a not-for-profit
organization of 65 Municipalities and one public power district that have joined
together to provide a competitively priced, reliable supply of natural gas.
In addition to ACE and Source Gas,
there are other providers of natural gas through the Source Gas Choice
